sonnel may operate the truck. Special safe-
ty shoes must be worn to prevent injuries.
- All necessary date is shown on the name-
plate that is fitted inside the frame (Fig. 4).
- If the truck is to be used to load / unload
lorries it must be tightly secured during travel.
- The accident prevention act valid for the
respective country and area where the truck
is used, also the commonly accepted regu-
lations for safe and professional work must
be adhered to.
- In order to ensure correct operation not only
the operating instructions, but also the con-
ditions for inspection and maintenance must
be complied with.
- If defects are found, stop using the truck
immediately.
INCORRECT OPERATION
- Do not exceed the maximum lifting capacity
of the truck.
- Do not place hands or feet under the raised
fork frame in order to avoid danger of
squeezing or cutting.
- It is forbidden to use the truck as a scooter.
- Place the load evenly on both forks.
- Do not use the truck as a jack.
- Do not use the truck in areas that are not
adequately lit.
- Because of possible exhaustion and loss of
control trucks must not be used on gradi-
ents.
Attention:
Valid for trucks without brakes.
- Do not use the forks as levers.
- Do not load a single fork arm to lift machines.
- The truck must not come into contact with
foodstuff.
- Do not turn the handle 90
°
to halt the truck.
- The truck must not be used in explosion-
endangered environments (special designs
on request).
ASSEMBLE THE HANDLE
Place the handle on the actuation block there-
by threading the link connection through the
bore of the actuating block. Secure the
handle with three screws. Connect the
connection link to the operating lever.
ADJUST THE LOWERING ACTION
Switch the control lever to the “raise forks”
position (Pos. 1 in Fig. 7) and make several
pumping actions with the handle until the
unloaded forks are fully raised. Now move the
control lever to the “neutral” position (Pos. 3
in Fig. 7). Loosen the Hex. Nut. Slowly turn
the setscrew in a clockwise direction until the
forks just start to lower. Now turn the setscrew

turns anticlockwise and secure the
setscrew with the locknut.
Attention:
The lowering function must be
available in all handle positions.
INITIAL OPERATION
Assembly of the truck (see Fig. 10)
INSPECTION BEFORE
COMMISSIONING
Each truck must be inspected prior to initial
operation by a competent person. The
inspection is mainly visual and functional and
shall establish the truck is safe and has not
been damaged by incorrect transport or
storage. The functional test shall include lifting,
transporting and lowering a small load. As
required, defects and damage must be
repaired.
Inspections should be made by a represen-
tative of the manufacturer or the supplier
although the company can assign its own
suitably trained personnel.
INSPECTION BEFORE STARTING WORK
Every time, before starting work, inspect the
truck visually for defects or damage.
Lift, transport and lower a small load to check
the functionality.
Check the frame
Check the frame at regular intervals for signs
of damage, deformation, cracks/fractures,
wear or corrosion.
Check the handle
Check the handle at regular intervals for signs
of damage, deformation, cracks/fractures,
wear or corrosion.
Also check all screwed connections are tight.
Check the oil level (Fig. 8)
The oil level must be checked at least every
six months (oil viscosity 30 Cst at 40
°
C /
total volume 0.3 litre). For temperatures
around 0
°
C we recommend AVILUB oil RSL
22.
In order to check the oil level observe the
following steps:
- Lower the forks completely.
- Unscrew tank cover (Pos. 1).
- Remove O-ring (Pos. 2) and rubber gasket
(Pos. 3).
- Add oil until 20 mm below edge of oil tank.
- Refit rubber gasket (Pos. 3) and O-ring (Pos.
2).
- Bleed the hydraulic system by making se-
veral pumping actions with the handle.
- Lower the forks again.
- Remove rubber gasket (Pos. 3) and O-ring
(Pos. 2) to bleed the system and refit.
- Refit tank cover (Pos. 1).
Check lubrication and leakage
As required by the application check, clean
and lubricate all shafts, axles and linkage as-
semblies (e.g. Shell FD or equivalent).
Check the hydraulic system at regular inter-
vals for leakage.
FUNCTION / OPERATION
Raising the load
Move the control lever to the lower position
(see Fig. 7) and make several pumping ac-
tions with the handle. Always lift the load at
its centre of gravity.
Lowering the load
Switch the control lever to the upper position
(see Fig. 7) until the forks have lowered to the
desired position. The lowering speed can be
influenced by sensitively operating the control
lever.
Neutral position
To transport the load the lever must be in the
centre position (see Fig. 7). This prevents the
load being raised or lowered during transpor-
tation.
INSPECTION / MAINTENANCE
To ensure that the truck remains in safe
working order it is to be subjected to regular
inspections by a competent person.
Inspections are to be annual unless adverse
working conditions dictate shorter periods. The
components of the truck are to be inspected
for damage, wear, corrosion or other
irregularities and all safety devices are to be
checked for completeness and effectiveness.
Repairs may only be carried out by a specialist
workshop that uses original Little Mule spare
parts.
For the disposal of waste or replaced items
such as hydraulic oil or old tyres always adhere
to the waste disposal regulations valid in the
country where the truck is being used.
Inspections are instigated by the user.
