Connection instructions for the ATEN IC-485S converter
2. Connecting the 2-wire cable between the ATEN IC-485S and GWAB11
The screened 2-wire cable is connected to the terminal blocks on the ATEN IC-485S and CN6
(RS-485 A) in the GWAB11. The terminal blocks on the ATEN IC-485S are shorted (1-4, 2-3).
3. Setting the switches SW1 and SW2 on ATEN IC-485S
4. Connecting ATEN IC-485S to PC and power supply
The ATEN IC-485S is an active transmitter and receiver and
does not work without power.
Shielding between the ATEN IC-485S and GWAB11 is not
needed in normal circumstances. In noisy environments, the
cable shield should be connected to the same chassis
ground as the RS-232 bus on the converter.
The terminal blocks are best shorted by connecting the wires on
2-wire cable with bootlace ferrules (
Figure 1
).
Switches SW1 and SW2 set the configuration of the ATEN IC-485S
(
Figure 2
).
• SW1 sets
Device Mode
.
• SW2 sets
Transmitting and Receiving Mode
.
The adapter cable, “D-sub,” is connected between the ATEN IC-485S
(25-pin) and PC (9-pin; socket is found on the back of the PC),
according to
Figure 3
.
Finally, connect the converter to the supplied plug-in power supply
(9VDC).
