Connection instructions for the ATEN IC-485S converter
1. Component overview and description
The GWAB11 Network controller continuously receives requests from the PC to get the temperature
values from the temperature sensor cables and return them. The GWAB11 retrieves the temperature
values from the connected GWNET11 network switches and returns them to the PC via an RS-485 bus.
The communication between PC and GWAB11 is carried out via a shielded 2-wire cable.
The ATEN IC-485S is an RS-232 to RS-485 converter. The RS-232 output is connected to the 9-pin serial
port (D-Sub) on the PC and the RS-485 output to the GWAB11.
The cable length between the GWAB11 and the ATEN IC-485S converter is not critical (<1000 meter /
3300 ft.) since the RS-485 signal is insensitive to interference. The GWAB11 should therefore be
mounted as close to the network cards GWNET11 as possible.
ATTENTION
The power must always be turned off
before you do any work on wiring or components.
Make sure that the terminal blocks are shorted correctly and that the switches are set
according to this manual.
