ACTIV8™
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The ACTIV8™ is a portable feeder for 15 lbs. / 8 in.
spoolsspecificallydesignedforshipyard(shipbuilding
and offshore structure fabrication). This wire feeder
will offer excellent feeding and welding performance
withhardandsoftshellweldingwires.Itwillbecom-
patiblewithanyDCCVand/orCCpowersource.
TheACTIV8™comesfactoryequippedwithaK1500-
2Magnum
®
Tweco-compatiblestyle#2-#4gunbush-
ing.OtherK1500seriesgunbushingsareavailableas
fieldinstalledoptions.
TheACTIV8™withit’spatentedfeaturesarespecially
engineeredtobethemostruggedportablewirefeed-
eravailable:
•Simple Controls – WFS knob on the front; Cold
Feed/Gas Purge, Trigger Interlock and CV/CC
switchesinside.
•Across-The-ArcOperation(VoltageSensing)–uses
a work lead and a contactor for enabling welding
current.
•Rating-330amp,60%dutycyclerating.
•Singlepottedcontrolboard–designcommonality.
•Gas apparatus – can be used for FCAW-G and
GMAWprocesses.
•MAXTRAC ® Wire Drive System – with two drive
rollsallowsbestinclassfeedingperformance.
•The plastic case is molded from a high impact,
flame retardant plastic for high durability and low
weight.
•TheheartoftheACTIV8™isthe2rollMAXTRAC
®
drive. The patented features on the wire drive offer
tool-lesschangingofthedriverollsandwireguides
for quick spool changes. A tachometer controlled
motor powers the patented drive rolls for smooth,
steadyfeedingwithoutslippage.
DUTY CYCLE
The ACTIV8™ wire feeders are intended for semi-
automaticuse.ThemaximumratingoftheACTIV8™
isbasedupona60%dutycycle;welding6minutesof
welding followed by 4 minutes of idling within a 10
minuteperiod.
RECOMMENDED PROCESSES
The ACTIV8™ wire drive feeds electrode for various
processesasfollows:(SeeTableB.1)
PROCESS LIMITATIONS
•GMAW-P procedures must be qualified by the cus-
tomer.
•ACTIV8™ is not recommended for stitch or spot
welding.
EQUIPMENT LIMITATIONS
•The duty cycle of the wire feeder is 330A, 60%.
Dutycycleisbasedupontheamountofweldingper-
formedina10minuteperiod.
•Themaximumspoolsizeis12.5lb,8”diameter.
