A list of definitions for some of the words found in this guide.
75 OHM
The wire that com es from an off-air antenna or cable s ervice provider.
RF CABLE
The end looks like a hex-s haped nut with a wire s ticking through the m iddle.
It s crews onto the threaded jack on the back of the TV.
300 TO 75 OHM
A s m all device that connects a two-wire 300 ohm antenna to a 75 ohm RF jack.
ADAPTER
They are us ually about an inch long with two s crews on one end and a round
opening with a wire s ticking out on the other end.
A/V CABLES
Audio/Video cables . Three cables bunched together—right audio (red),
left audio (white), and video (yellow). AV cables are us ed for s tereo playback
of videocas s ettes and for higher quality picture and s ound from other A/V devices .
A/V DEV ICE
Any device that produces video or s ound (VCR, DVD, cable box, or televis ion).
ADDED
Lets you add new channels to the lis t that the us er can s croll through us ing
CH (Channel) Up/Down.
AM PLIFIER
An electronic device that am plifies s ound from a televis ion, CD player,
VCR, DVD, or other Audio/Video device.
ANTENNA
The phys ical receiver of televis ion s ignals s ent over the air. A large m etal piece
of equipm ent does not always have to be vis ible to be us ing an antenna.
AUTO PROGRAM
Auto Program has the TV autom atically find all the channels available.
BLANK
Channels that are Blanked will not have Video (s hows a blank s creen);
only audio, if pres ent on channel.
DELETED
Lets you rem ove channels from the lis t that the us er will s croll through
us ing CH (Channel) Up/Down.
INPUT
Refers to the input jack that receives a s ignal from a TV, VCR,
or other Audio/Video device.
JACK
A connection on the back of a TV, VCR, or other Audio/Video device.
M ONO SOUND
Mono (m onaural) s ound is one channel of s ound. On m ore than one
s peaker, all the s peakers play the s am e audio.
M .P.I.
Multiple Protocol Interface: LG protocol for external control of TV
through RJ11 (M.P.I.) input jack on TV connections panel.
(M.P.I. jack is us ed for cloning TV’s features .)
OUTPUT
Refers to the output jack that s ends a s ignal out of a VCR,
DVD, or other A/V device.
2ND AUDIO
Second Audio Program m ing (SAP) is another s eparate audio channel
PROGRAM M ING
available with s om e program m ing.
SAP
Choos ing SAP often refers to lis tening to audio in another language,
s uch as Spanis h or French.
S-V IDEO
Provides higher-quality picture and s ound. (S-Video is als o referred to as “Y-C”.)
SIGNAL
Picture and s ound traveling through a cable, or over the air,
to your televis ion.
STEREO SOUND
Stereo (Stereophonic) s ound refers to audio that’s divided into right and left s ides .
TUNER
Device that picks up the broadcas t s ignal and turns it into picture and s ound.
XDS
Extended Data Service: Additional program inform ation included on
the s ignal provided at the dis cretion of the broadcas ter.
