Figure 62. Fan removal

Step 1. Press the fan handle inward toward the center of the server to release the latch; then, pull the fan

forward halfway (see Figure 62 “Fan removal” on page 120), and wait 10 seconds.

Step 2. Pull the fan forward and out of the server. The fan is connected to the fan handle via a hinge and

the fan will flop downward when it is removed from the server.

To maintain system cooling, all fans must be installed in the server during operation.

If you are instructed to return the fan, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for
shipping that are supplied to you.

Install the fan

Insert the fan in the front of the chassis; then, push it in until it stops and the latch engages. Fans are hot-

swap devices that can be installed while the server is powered on.

Hazardous moving fan blades nearby. Keep fingers and other body parts away.

Note:

The ThinkAgile VX7820 Appliance/VX 4U Certified Node supports two types of internal hot-swap fan

(a 16K fan and a 19K fan). Make sure that the fan being installed is the same type as the fan that was
removed. Different fan types cannot be mixed within a system.

Complete the following steps to install a fan:
