Appendix A. Hardware disassembling for recycle
Follow the instructions in this section to recycle components with compliance with local laws or regulations.
Disassemble the server for chassis recycle
Follow the instructions in this section to disassemble the server before recycling the chassis.
About this task
Attention:
• Go over “Installation Guidelines” on page 107 to ensure that you work safely.
• Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see
“Power off the server” on page 12).
• If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover,
or remove the server from the rack.
Step 1. Remove the security bezel (see “Remove the security bezel” on page 198).
Step 2. Remove all the installed drives and fillers (see “Remove a 2.5-inch hot-swap drive” on page 110
and “Remove a 7mm drive” on page 115).
Step 3. Remove all the installed power supply units and fillers (see “Remove a hot-swap power supply unit”
Step 4. Remove the top cover (see “Remove the top cover” on page 214).
Step 5. Remove the system board air baffle (see “Remove the system board air baffle” on page 200) or the
processor and memory expansion tray and the expansion tray air baffle (see “Remove the
processor and memory expansion tray” on page 190).
Step 6. Remove the fan cage assembly (see “Remove the fan cage assembly” on page 130).
Step 7. Remove the external LCD diagnostics handset (see “Remove the external LCD diagnostics
Step 8. Remove both PCIe riser card assemblies (see “Remove the PCIe riser assembly” on page 157).
Step 9. Remove all the adapters that are installed on the system board (see “Remove an adapter” on page
