Adjusting the Self-propel Drive
Cable
If the lawn mower does not self-propel or if it has a
tendency to creep forward when you disengage the drive,
adjust the wheel traction control cable.
1. Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
2. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 12).
3. Loosen the nut on the support block (Fig. 29).

4. Loosen the bottom jam nut on the wheel traction cable
(Fig. 29).

6. Move the top jam nut up to increase the clearance
between the control bar and the handle. Move the top
jam nut down to decrease the clearance between the
control bar and the handle.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the self-propel drive is
properly adjusted.
8. Tighten the bottom jam nut to the lock the adjustment.
9. The jam nut should be against the support block when
the adjustment is complete (Fig. 29).
10. Tighten the nut at the support block.
Adjusting the Throttle
You may need to adjust the throttle control if the engine
does not start or stop. Whenever you install a new throttle
control, adjust the throttle.
1. Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
2. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 12).
3. Set the throttle control to the (Fast) position and align
the hole on the carb box with the hole on the choke
slide (Fig. 31) with a 1/8-inch (3 mm) diameter pin.

Emptying the Fuel Tank
WARNING
POTENTIAL HAZARD
•
Gasoline is extremely flammable, highly
explosive and under certain conditions can
cause personal injury or property damage.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN
•
Tipping the lawn mower may cause the fuel to
leak from the carburetor or the fuel tank.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD
•
Avoid fuel spills by running the engine dry or
removing gasoline with a hand pump; never
siphon.
1. Stop the engine and wait for it to cool down.
2. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 12).
3. Remove the cap from the fuel tank (Fig. 10).
4. Use a hand pump to syphon the fuel into a clean
approved gasoline container.
5. Connect the wire to the spark plug.
