Brakes
There is automatic compensation for wear on brake pads and
brake linings, and this will have no effect on the brake lever or
brake pedal, so no adjustments will be necessary. However, this
means that the brake fl uid should be checked routinely.
Before checking the brake fl uid level, you should make sure that
the motorcycle is stable and standing on even ground with the
kickstand down. The handlebar must be in forward position
before the brake fl uid to the front brake can be checked. Clean
around the cap for each reservoir before removing it. Check the
fl uid level in both reservoirs (see fi g. 22). The sight glass for the
brake fl uid must be at least half-full and as a maximum completely
full (see fi g. 23). If necessary, DOT 5 silicone-based brake fl uid can
be added from a closed container. Brake fl uid in both brakes must
be changed in accordance with scheduled maintenance.

**
Warning
** It is of the utmost importance that DOT 5
silicone-based brake fl uid is used for the brake system.
Incorrect brake fl uid can reduce braking effi ciency. This
could cause you to lose control of the motorcycle, which
may result in personal injury or loss of life.
**
Warning
** The brake fl uid level must be checked at
regular intervals. If there is a particularly low fl uid level
in a reservoir, air may enter the system, which will reduce
braking effi ciency. This could cause you to lose control
of the motorcycle, which may result in personal injury or
loss of life.
