2.5 Setting Up Your Modem
1. From the
Start Menu
, click
Settings
-->
Control Panel
.
2. Inside Control Panel, double-click the "
Phone and Modem Options
" icon.
3. Click the "
Modems
" tab at the top of the box
4. Click the "
Add
" button.
5. Select "
Don't Detect My Modem
" and click
Next
.
6. Select "
Standard 19200 bps Modem
" and click
Next
.
7. Assign the modem to the COM port where the will be connected, then click
Next
.
8. Click
Finish
.
2.6 Configuring The Modem
1. Click on
Start
-->
Settings
-->
Control Panel
.
2. Click "
Phone and Modem Options
". Click
New
.
3. For "
Location Name
", enter a name to distinguish this connection as the CDM819s.
4. Type your area code in the
Area Code
box.
5. Click "
Apply
" and
OK
.
6. The window should exit out to the "
Phone and Modem Options
" box.
7. Click the tab at the top titled "
Modems
".
8. Select the "
Standard 19200 bps Modem
" and click "
Properties
".
9. Click the "
Modem
" tab at the top of this new box.
10. The box titled "
Maximum Port Speed
" should read: 115200. If not, scroll down to
select 115200.
11. Click
OK
. Click "
Apply
" and then
OK
.
You can access the modem through a terminal emulation program such as HyperTerminal, which
should already be installed in your version of Windows. To launch HyperTerminal, click on the
Start Menu
, go to
Programs
-->
Accessories
-->
Communications
-->
HyperTerminal
. If
prompted, you may name this connection "TEST" or give it any other appropriate name. After
clicking OK, the "Connect To" box will appear. In the "Connect Using" box, you may see several
listings such as COM1, COM2 and the Standard 19200bps Modem that we just added in the
previous section. Do not attempt to connect to the device via the 19200 bps modem or the
Kyocera High-Speed Modem option. Instead, select COM1 (or whatever port you have the
modem connected to) from the drop-down list. After clicking OK, you should be prompted with a
"Port Settings" dialog box. Make certain that the "Bits per Second" option is set to "115200". The
"Data bits" should be listed as "8", Parity "None", Stop Bits "1" and Flow Control "Hardware".
Click "Apply" and "OK". By default, the CDM-819s Flow Control protocol is Hardware, but this
can be adjusted with the
AT+IFC
command. Please see the sections entitled
"Frequently Asked
Questions"
and
"Extended AT Configurations Command Table"
for more detailed information
pertaining to this and other communications commands.
