Driveline Installation
The driveline supplied with the tiller has either a friction
slip clutch or a shear-bolt type to protect the tiller and
tractor from shock loads. Always engage power take-off
at low engine rpm to minimize start-up torque loads.
Refer to Figure 1-2: The shear-bolt driveline has a pull
collar coupler on the tractor end and a push pin coupler
on the implement end.
Refer to Figure 1-3: The friction slip clutch driveline has
a pull collar coupler on the tractor end and a conical-dog
pin coupler on the implement end.
An additional driveline may be required if the tiller is used
on more than one tractor or if a quick hitch is used.
Refer to Figure 1-4:
1. Remove fasteners and gearbox cover.
2. Remove gearbox shaft protector (#3) and discard.
Shear-bolt Driveline
a. Push down on coupler and hold while sliding
coupler (#2) onto the gearbox input shaft.
b. Release coupler pin and continue to slide the
coupler on the shaft until the pin locks in place.
Friction Slip Clutch Driveline
a. Remove existing nut, flat washer, and conical-dog
pin from driveline coupler (#2).
b. Slide coupler (#2) onto the gearbox input shaft.
Align the conical-dog pin hole in the coupler with
the groove around the gearbox input shaft.
c. Attach coupler to the input shaft with removed
conical-dog pin, flat washer, and nut. Tighten nut
to the correct torque.
3. Push/pull on the coupler to ensure it is securely
fastened to the gearbox input shaft.
4. Secure gearbox protection cover to the 3-point hitch
frame with removed hardware. Tighten hardware to
the correct torque.
5. Collapse driveline (#1) by pushing the tractor
end of the driveline toward the implement.
IMPORTANT:
The driveline must be lubricated
before putting it into service. Refer to “Lubrication
Points”
on page 27.
