Hook-up Customer Hydraulics
Length of hydraulic hoses, type of hydraulic fittings, and
method of hose routing will vary from tractor to tractor.
Therefore, the customer is to supply required hydraulic
hoses, elbows, adapters, mounting brackets, quick
connect couplers, and all other unforeseen components
to complete the connection between customer’s duplex
outlet at the tractor and Land Pride’s connection point at
the back of the bucket.

!
To avoid serious injury or death:
Hydraulic fluid under high pressure will penetrate the skin or
eyes causing a serious injury. Wear protective gloves and safety
glasses or goggles when working with hydraulic systems. Use a
piece of cardboard or wood rather than hands when searching for
leaks. If an accident occurs, seek immediate emergency medical
care or gangrene may result. DO NOT DELAY.
1. Attach customer supplied hydraulic hoses to the back
of the grapple as follows:

Standard Set-up, refer to Figure 1-4 on page 11:
Customer supplied hydraulics will connect to
tees (#6). Tees are 9/16"-18 37
o
male JIC threads.
•
Optional Set-up, refer to Figure 1-5 on page 12:
Customer supplied hydraulics will connect to
EXT & RET ports in counterbalance valve (#12).
Remove and discard EXT & RET port plugs (#13)
from counterbalance valve. EXT & RET Ports are
3/4"-16 female ORB threads.
2. Route customer supplied hydraulic hoses through
the most convenient path to access the tractor’s
duplex outlet.
3. Clean quick connect couplers of dirt and then
connect couplers to the tractor’s duplex outlet. Make
sure quick connect couplers are fully engaged. If they
are not, check the following:
a. Make sure couplers are same size and type.
b. Make sure hydraulic pressure has been released.
4. Extend and retract hydraulic cylinder with the tractor
controls. Switch hoses on the tractor duplex outlet if
hydraulic cylinders operate opposite of intended
direction.
5. Secure customer supplied hydraulic hoses and
fittings along their path with zip ties or by other
means to protect them from being pinched, kinked,
and/or snagged.

your tractor Operator’s Manual.
IMPORTANT:
Make sure coupler fittings on the
customer supplied hydraulic hoses and tractor
duplex outlet are clean before connecting them
together.
Equipment Clearances
It is important to check clearance before putting the
Grapple Bucket into operation. Make sure hoses are long
enough and won’t become pinched or entangled in the
equipment. Also, make sure the bucket does not come in
contact with the tractor frame and tires by carefully going
through its full range of motions.
1. Visually inspect hydraulic hoses for possible pinch
points and shortness. Make adjustments to the
hoses before putting the equipment into service.
2. Start tractor and raise bucket approximately
36" (.39 m) off the ground.
3. If necessary, have someone stand nearby that can
motion for the operator to stop if a problem develops
while completing steps 4-7 below.
4. Fully extend grapple hydraulic cylinders to pivot the
grapple tines down.
5. Fully extend and retract hydraulic cylinders on the
end of the loader arms while watching for
interferences between the tractor and Grapple
Bucket. Make sure hydraulic hoses are long enough
and do not become pinched through the full range of
motion.
6. Fully retract the grapple hydraulic cylinders to pivot
the grapple tines up and repeat step 5.
7.
Raise the bucket fully up and repeat steps 4-6.
Purging Hydraulic System
1. With bucket raised off the ground about
12" (30.5 cm), cycle grapple hydraulic cylinders
several times from fully extended to fully retracted.
Refer to Figure 1-4 on page 11:
2. Purge the hydraulic system if a cylinder operates
unevenly after cycling it several times:
a. Shut tractor down before dismounting. See
b. Loosen hoses (#9 & 10) on elbows (#5B).
c. Slowly activate lever to retract the cylinder rod and
purge trapped air from the system.
d. Once all trapped air is removed, tighten hoses
(#9 & #10) to elbows (#5B).
