The PhoneHome Support System

The optional PhoneHome Support system is enabled by default on all LairdShareHDs. This system requires no interaction or
setup on your part, and allows our support staff to monitor the LairdShareHD system for hardware related issues, and to assist you
if you have any issues with your LairdShareHD system. It is fully encrypted, secure, and will not compromise your network or infor-
mation security.

The PhoneHome Support system operates by creating an encrypted link from your LairdShareHD server to our support system
over your existing TCP/IP network and internet connection. This link can be accessed only by our support staff. Under normal op-
eration, the PhoneHome Support system uses this link only to alert our support staff if your LairdShareHD experiences a hardware
failure, so that they can contact you to arrange a drive replacement or advanced repair options. No information about the number,
names, type, or the contents on your server will be transmitted.
In the advent of a disk failure, with your authorization, our Support staff can log into your LairdShareHD over this encrypted link to
help you rebuild the array and ensure continued optimal performance with little or no down time. Additionally, if you are having
trouble accessing your LairdShareHD system, our Support staff may be able to use this link to help troubleshoot and resolve any
other issues you may have with the LairdShareHD.

Optionally, this link can be use to provide more active maintenance for your LairdShareHD, such as software upgrades and secu-
rity patching. This will help ensure that your data is always accessible and that the LairdShareHD remains the most reliable sys-
tem for data storage.
