This Important Product Information covers
SimNewB. Unless otherwise specified
the information applies to all product
configurations.
Read these instructions thoroughly. Observe
all warnings, cautions and instructions in the
User Guide and in this Important Product
Information booklet. Retain this booklet for
future reference.
Warnings and Cautions
A Warning states a condition, hazard, or
unsafe practice that can result in serious
personal injury or death.
A Caution states a condition, hazard, or unsafe
practice that can result in minor personal
injury or damage to the product.
Notes
A note states important information about
the product or its operation.
General Simulator Handling
Warnings
•
Do not use medical devices during simulation
with SimNewB unless the medical devices
have been subjected to the local cleaning
and disinfection procedures both prior to
and immediately after the simulation (risk of
cross-contamination and infections).
•
Do not use SimNewB closer than 2.5 m
vicinity to a patient.
•
Do not provide artificial respiration to the
Patient Simulator using oxygen enriched air or
flammable gases.
•
Do not use or charge the simulator in the
presence of oxygen sources over 21%, or in
the presence of flammable gases.
•
Do not carry out chest compression during
spontaneous breathing of the simulator.
•
Do not disconnect the legs at the hip.
•
Do not use real umbilical cords during
simulation with SimNewB.
Cautions
•
Do not lift SimNewB by the chest.
•
Do not perform peripheral IV procedures
•
Do not apply counterpressure to the arms
during use of automated movements.
•
Do not introduce fluids into or onto the
patient simulator (except as directed in the
User Guide) as this may damage it and its
components.
•
Do not store or use this product outside its
specified operating and storage conditions.
•
Do not use the Patient Simulator in aircrafts
when they are airborne.
•
Do not store the simulator with fluid in the
Umbilical reservoir and IO system. Use a
syringe to remove remains of any injected
water from the tubing and components prior
to storage.
Defibrillation
Warning
Do not perform defibrillation and pacing.
Airway Management
Cautions
•
Never perform mouth-to-mouth or mouth-
to-nose ventilation on the Patient Simulator.
The airways are not designed for cleaning or
disinfection.
•
Do not put biological materials or other fluids
into the simulator’s airways or stomach. They
are not designed for cleaning or disinfection.
•
Do not introduce humidified air into the
system during ventilation.
•
Use ONLY silicone lubricant provided by
Laerdal Medical. (Cat. No. 410-00050)
•
Do NOT use Laerdal Training Lubricant
(Cat.No. 250-21050/ 252090)
•
Using other lubricant can damage the airway
and/or simulator.
•
Lubricate laryngoscope blade and tubes prior
to insertion into the airway. Non-lubricated
instruments and tubes may cause damage
to the airway.
