INSTALLATION
This chapter addresses the installation requirements for the Secure Terminal Equipment (STE).
The Office or Tactical STEs can be set upon a desk or hung upon a wall. In mobile environments (military
vehicles or ships), they can be set in some type of telephone holder to keep them from being damaged.
Refer to local instructions/regulations prior to mounting.
The STE-R (PSTN) and STE-RT (Tactical) may be installed in an office-type environment by setting them
on a desk. These units can be stacked on top of each other or installed in equipment cabinets/racks.
The CEU (ISDN only) and STE-RI (ISDN only) are installed in racks for use in special applications, such
as a Secure Voice Conferencing Systems.
In all applications, the governing authority must provide specific installations instructions. Included in this
chapter are:

2-1. UNPACKING

Inspection and Inventory
Inspect the shipping container for obvious signs of damage. If damage is evident, make sure a
description of the damage is noted on the shipping documentation prior to signing for the shipment.
When the shipping container is opened, inventory the contents (refer to
inspect each item for damage. If the STE Terminal (an assembly made up of a base STE and either an
Office Wedge or a Tactical Wedge) shows signs of damage, DO NOT proceed with the installation. Send
the terminal back to L-3 Communications. Refer to
