4.1 Maintenance and service
The M-PHASE flowmeters are maintenance free with respect to the flow metering properties.
Within the scope of periodic inspections required for electrical equipment installed in hazardous
areas it is recommended to check the flow meter and converter housing for signs of corrosion.
This is especially important for the flameproof (Ex d) electronics and motor housings.
4.1.1 Returning the instrument for service or repair
The instrument has been carefully manufactured and tested. If installed and operated in
accordance with the instructions in the handbook, the flowmeter will rarely present any
problems. Should you need to return an instrument for inspection or repair, please pay strict
attention to the below described issues.
The flowmeter is allowed to have been in contact with hazardous materials, as long as it is
properly cleaned before it is transported. This means that KROHNE can only service an
instrument if it is accompanied by the following certificate confirming that the instrument is safe
to handle.
If the instrument has been operated with toxic, caustic, flammable or water polluting liquids, you
must follow the below steps:
•
Check and ensure, if necessary by rinsing or neutralizing, that all cavities in the instrument
are free from dangerous substances
•
Enclose a certificate with the instrument confirming that it is safe to handle and stating the
product(s) used. We cannot service your instrument unless accompanied by a certificate.
The specimen shown in Appendix 1 can be photocopied and filled in by hand or downloaded from
the KROHNE website www.krohne.com as a Word file. Simply use the tabulator key to go from
one fill-out field to the next field. Please attach the completely filled-out form to the instrument
before returning it to KROHNE.
WARNING!
•
No serviceable parts inside. Only KROHNE authorized service personnel are allowed to open
the flameproof (Ex d) electronics and motor housings.
•
Do not open flameproof enclosures when an explosive atmosphere is present.
•
The flameproof joints are not intended to be repaired.
