Bed knife/adjustment assembly
Attach two adjustment blocks (item 6) to sharpened bed knife using flat head cap screws
(item 9).
Refer to FIG. 9. for proper block orientation. (Threaded hole for flat head screw is not
centered in the adjustment block. Assemble with block offset away from bed knife cutting
edge; this allows the adjustment screw more usable threads.)
Square blocks with knife edge. Clean cutter/granulator base surface of all dirt. Place bed
knife assembly on cutter base, with blocks through the two cast base openings. Leave 1.6
mm (1/16’’) uniform clearance between bed knife and rotor knife cutting edges.
Place cover plate (item 5) on bed knife and fasten with three button head cap screws and
three disc springs (items 10 and 15). Tighten screws only until the disc springs are partially
compressed, allowing for final bed knife adjustment.
Thread two adjustment screws (item 8) into adjustment pads (item 7), leaving approx. 19
mm (3/4’’) exposed thread length between screw head and pad. Thread small diameter of
screw into adjustment block, rotating the pad with the screw, until the pad rests against the
cutter/granulator base. Rotate pad around screw while turning screw as necessary until
pad rests firmaly against base and lower clearance hole lines up with tapped hole in base.
Fasten adjustment pads using button head cap screws and disc springs (items 10 and 15).
Recheck for uniform clearance between bed knife and rotor knives.
A full clockwise turn of the adjustment screws advances the bed knife 0.2 mm (0.008 in).
With one rotor knife located fully above the bed knife edge, slowly drive in the LEFT adjust
-
ment screw. While doing this, SLOWLY and repeatedly turn the same rotor knife down to
the bed knife until the left end of the two knives just touch. Back-off the left side (counter-
clockwise) enough for the knives to clear one another without resistance or a “ticking”
sound.
Now locate a rotor knife fully below the bed knife edge. Slowly drive in the RIGHT adjust-
ment screw while SLOWLY and repeatedly turning the same rotor knife up to the bed knife
until the right side of the two knives just touch. Back-off the right side (counterclockwise)
enough for the knives to clear.
Slowly spin rotor by hand to verify clearances on both rotor knives. Tighten the three bed
knife retaining screws (item 10) to 40 Nm (29.0 ft-lb).
