4. An oil cooler is standard equipment on some
models and an option on others. It may be a cast
aluminum housing, part of the oil filter adapter,
or attached to the blower housing, separated
from the oil filter adapter. If so equipped, remove
the adapter and the cooler. See Figures 9-6 and
9-7.
Remove Muffler
1. Remove the exhaust system and attaching
hardware from the engine. On engines equipped
with a port liner, remove it now.
Remove Air Cleaner Assembly
Standard Air Cleaner
1. Unhook the latches or loosen the knob and
remove the cover. Refer to Section 4.
2. Remove the wing nut from the element cover.
3. Remove the element cover, the air cleaner
element with precleaner and the stud seal.

5. Remove the bracket then remove the base and
gasket while carefully pulling the rubber
breather tube through the base. See Figure 9-10.

4. Remove the hex flange screws securing the
bracket and base. See Figure 9-8. Two additional
rear screws must be removed if the engine
contains a rear air cleaner support bracket. See
Figure 9-9.
