ENGINE TROUBLESHOOTING
ENGINE IS HaRD TO STaRT
Possible causes actions
1. Fuel is cloudy or fuel flow is restricted

Check fuel tank and fuel filter.

Remove water, dirt, or other debris.

Filter out fuel, and replace the filter if contaminated.
2. Air or water in fuel system

Fuel pump is not working properly due to air in the fuel filter or injection line.
Loosen the fuel cap nut and check carefully to obtain proper fuel injection pressure.

Loosen the air vent screw from the fuel filter and fuel injection pump and bleed
all air from the fuel system.
3. Thick carbon deposit at injection nozzle inlet

Water or dirt in fuel. Clean the injection nozzle and check the nozzle inject for damage.

Check that the nozzle is working properly. Install new nozzle if necessary.
4. Incorrect valve clearance

Adjust the valve clearance (with the engine cold).
- Intake: 0.25 mm (0.010 in.)
- Exhaust: 0.35 mm (0.014 in.)
5. Leaks from valve

Polish the valve.
6. Incorrect fuel injection timing

Adjust the injection timing.

Injection timing: BTDC 12°(sub port)
7. Engine oil is cloudy and engine runs slowly
in cold weather

Change to correct oil grade depending on the weather (temperature).
8. Low compression

Defective valve or excessively worn ring, piston, and liner will result in low
compression. Replace it with new one.
9. Battery discharged, or engine is not running

Replace the battery.

Use the decompressor.

Remove battery from the tractor and keep it in an indoor environment in cold
weather. Install the battery when you use the tractor.
