Solar System Installation Guide

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM

CAUSE

SOLUTION

Pump is not

operating

Mains/pump wiring is faulty

Build up of limestone around heat

exchanger

Breaker tripped

The pump control selector is in ‘OFF’

position

Collector temperature not high enough

High limit tank temp. has been reached

Pump rotor damaged

Check wiring at mains /pump

Drain and clean system thoroughly

Re-set breaker

Return controller to automatic mode ‘AUTO’

No action required

No action required

See pump manufacturer’s instructions

No Circulation in

System

Pump isolating valves closed

Air lock at pressure relief valve

Air lock in the system

Non-return valve jammed

Tank high limit reached and system in

stagnation

Air in system

Open valves

Twist cap at pressure relief valve and vent air

Check all pipework rises on return side, falls on

flow side – clear manual vents

Free valve or replace

Wait until system reaches normal operating

conditions

Re-purge the system

Controller is not

operating

The controller has no power.

The fuse is blown in the controller.

The breaker for that circuit blown.

Make certain the breaker is on for that circuit.
Replace the fuse with the identical type called
out in the controller manual.

Reset the breaker for that circuit.

Temperature

Sensor not

reading properly

Sensor not plugged into the controller

Sensor plugged into incorrect place in the
controller

Sensor wire is damaged.

Sensor has fallen out of its well

Check that the sensor’s plug is fully inserted in
the controller. See wiring schematics for more
information
Refer to the wiring schematic in this manual for
the proper locations and nomenclature for the
temperature sensors.
Follow the length of the wire and make certain
there are no breaks, or damage to the insulation
on the wire. The controller manual shows a
schematic so a multi meter can be used to check
the wire.
Replace the sensor in the proper well. Refer to

instructions in this manual for where

temperature sensors should be placed.

Low System

Pressure

Leak in system

Drain / fill  valve on pump station not

closed

Faulty pressure relief valve

Damaged expansion tank causes pressure

fluctuation and relief valve to open

Check all joints

Close fully

Replace

Replace

Performance Loss

Broken tubes

Damaged insulation
