Dear Key Digital...
Q:
Dear Key Digital
Some of your cables are marked CL3 and FT4. What are these
designations and why don’t all cables labeled as such?
Seth,NewYork,NY
A:
Dear Seth,
CL3 is the NEC (National Electrical Code) standard in the United
States and FT4 is the Canadian code standard that is used to
designate the ability of a product to be installed in walls, ceilings
and floors.
Many areas of the US have specific codes that need to be met
when wire is installed in enclosed areas. The standards of the
NEC usually describe many aspects of the wires performance,
including its ability to control or limit fire traveling up or down the
cable. Clearly, this is an important consideration when installing
wire. At Key Digital we know that almost all customers will use
longer lengths of wire in enclosed areas. This is why our short
cables do not need CL3 or FT4 designation.
