6.2 Silent APRS and Packet Communications (Voice Alert)

Voice Alert
6.2.2
The Voice Alert feature makes use of CTCSS. The CTCSS used for Voice Alert is referred
to as voice alert frequency. Audio is from the speaker only when signals with the matched
CTCSS coincides with the voice alert frequency are received.
For example, when calling a party to arrange a meeting time and place, it would be
necessary to press the
[PTT]
key repeatedly as the caller would not know whether the
signals have reached the receiver successfully. With the Voice Alert feature, the caller is
able to wait until the voice call is established without having to press the
[PTT]
key.
First of all, the speaker sound is muted when both users turn on the Voice Alert feature.
Next, when APRS beacon is turned on and both users move away from each other, the
sound received from the beacon is from the speaker when both users move to a distance
where signals can be received directly. In other words, when the sound received from the
beacon is heard, this means a voice call can been established.
6.3 Screen Capture of Radio Display
Screen Capture
6.3.1
