HYDRAULICS
Hydraulic systems store a lot of energy. Careless service, adjustment or replacement of parts
can result in serious injury. Leaking hydraulic oil under pressure can damage the eyes or other
body parts. The following precautions are important:
• Make sure that the hydraulic pump is switched off.
• Lower equipment to the ground.
• Always check that there is no pressure remaining in the system.
A small leak in a hydraulic hose can be a serious hazard. A leak doesn’t always have to be vis-
ible, sometimes the only sign can be just a few drops. Never inspect hydraulic hoses with your
hands, as a fine jet of hydraulic fluid can penetrate the skin. Use a piece of paper or cardboard
to search for leaks.
