4 Startup
4.1 Fitting requirements
The KaVo CONNECTbase is designed for installation in a dental treatment
device in accordance with
DIN EN ISO 7494
.
The following requirements must be met by the installation:

Install only in permanently installed equipment of protection class 1.

Install only in a contact-voltage proof environment.
4
The KaVo CONNECTbase may be operated in horizontal or vertical orienta-
tion only.

The KaVo CONNECTbase may only be operated in an environment permit-
ting IP 20.

It is imperative to comply with all requirements of
IEC 60 601-1
and the re-
spective national regulations.

Installation of the KaVo CONNECTbase on a base plate that is metallically-
conducting and connected to a protective earth conductor.
4
Operation in vertical orientation with the base plate on the bottom.
4
A minimum spacing about the Wi-Fi antenna of at least 10 mm to metallic
parts or cables is required.

Electrical supply and permissible operating temperature range.

Functional connections to older dental devices (e.g. E50 Life, E30) must be
provided with an additional disconnecting device.
4.2 Connection of additional devices

Damage or injuries due to incorrect use of KaVo CONNECTbase
Connecting the KaVo CONNECTbase to devices other than those described here
may lead to damage to the device or the treatment centre or to injuries.

Connecting additional devices, make sure that the cables are routed prop-
erly.
Comply especially with the following when you connect additional devices:

Only intraoral cameras or type BF applied parts may be connected to KaVo
CONNECTbase.

KaVo CONNECTbase may only be connected to displace that meet the re-
quirements of
IEC 60601-1
and either feature base insulation to live parts
(2.5 mm air gap and 4 mm creep distance) or have a metal housing with a
permanently installed and secured protective earth conductor.

KaVo CONNECTbase may only be connected to additional devices docu-
mented to comply with the relevant standards and directives (e.g.
IEC62368-1
,
IEC60065
).

The establisher of a system must ensure that in particular in a patient envir-
onment, the system corresponds to the safety degree of a medical device as
per IEC 60601-1.
