10. To remove the used OPC drum (K):
• Remove the drum retaining bushing (L) from the rear of the unit by turning it clockwise and pulling outward.
• Carefully slide the drum toward the rear of the unit, then lift it from the front.
11. Remove the toner recycling pipe (M) and lock lever by removing one screw.
12. Vacuum the entire unit thoroughly, using caution not to damage the magnetic roller or the mylar seals in the developer and cleaner assemblies.
Replacing the Fuse
IMPORTANT: Always replace the fuse (N) when rebuilding the imaging unit. Use only a low-wattage soldering iron (35 watts). Excessive heat can damage the fuse.
13. Remove the two screws connecting the imaging unit connector to the rear of the unit. Carefully pull the imaging unit connector until the black
insulating tube covering the fuse is clear of the unit.
14. Cut a 15 mm slit in the black insulating tube. Cut off the existing fuse lead approximately 10-15 mm from the plastic connector housing.
15. Remove the insulating tube. Cut off the remaining fuse lead approximately 10-15 mm from the plastic connector housing.
16. Solder the new fuse lead onto one of the existing leads. Replace the insulating tube and solder the remaining fuse lead. Seal the insulating tube with
electrical tape.
17. Reinstall the imaging unit connector removed in step 13.
Replacing the Front Ds Positioning Collar
NOTE: Throughout these steps, support the rear drive assemblies to ensure that no parts are moved out of position.
18. Remove the barbell-shaped gear (O) by removing one screw.
19. Remove the front drive gear (P) and mag roller gear (Q) by removing one e-ring from each, then remove the idler gear (R).
20. Remove and discard the used front Ds positioning collar (S), then install the new Katun front Ds positioning collar.
21. Reinstall the idler gear (R), mag roller gear (Q) and front drive gear (P) removed in step 19. Reinstall the barbell-shaped gear (O) removed in step 18.
Replacing the Rear Ds Positioning Collar
22. Remove the coupler gear (T) from the rear of the unit by removing one screw.
23. Remove the rear Ds positioning collar (U) by removing one e-ring. Discard the used Ds positioning collar, then install the new Katun rear Ds
positioning collar.
24. Reinstall the coupler gear (T) removed in step 22.
Reassembly
25. To install the new Katun OPC drum:
• Lightly dust the entire surface of the new Katun OPC drum with fresh toner.
• Insert the drum toward the rear of the unit, pushing gently until the front end of the drum can slide into the white positioning head.
• Reinstall the drum retaining bushing (L) removed in step 10 at the rear of the unit.
26. To install the new Katun drum cleaning blade:
• Apply a light dusting of toner to the edge of the new drum cleaning blade.
• Position the blade in the imaging unit.
• Reinstall the front shoulder screw and spring (I) and the rear shoulder screw and plastic lever (J) removed in step 9.
• Reattach the main pressure spring (H).
27. Manually rotate the drum clockwise a minimum of one full revolution to ensure proper lubrication.
28. Reinstall the toner recycling pipe (M) and lock lever removed in step 11.
29. Reinstall the front cover/cartridge holder (F) removed in step 8.
30. Reinstall the toner-add assembly (E) by reconnecting its wiring harness, carefully aligning its gears, and securing it with the one screw removed in step 7.
31. Reinstall the main charge corona assembly (D) removed in step 6, and reconnect its two wire connectors. Reinstall the two corona assembly wire
harness snap covers (C).
32. Reinstall the starter unit cover (B) removed in step 5.
Installation
33. Turn off the copier and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
34. Install the imaging unit into the machine.
35. Remove the seal from the new starter cartridge and install it into the unit’s cartridge holder. Close the front cover.
36. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet and turn on the copier. When the warm-up period is complete, the copier will begin an approximately six-
minute recharge cycle, during which a “0” will be displayed on the control panel.
37. After the recharge cycle is complete, a “1” will light up continuously on the control panel. NOTE: If error code E1 or E2 is displayed, ensure that the
seal has been removed from the starter cartridge and recheck all wiring connections on the drum unit. Restart the process by turning the copier off
and on again.
38. Remove the empty starter cartridge. Install a new toner cartridge and close the front cover.
