The handwheel
does not rotate
smoothly or
does not turn.
1. The thread is entangled and caught in
the hook.
• Lubricate the hook, strongly turn the
handwheel clockwise and counterclock-
wise several times, then remove the
thread caught in the hook.

The material
cannot be fed.
1. The stitch length is set “0”.
2. Drop-feed knob is set to “NOT FEED”.
3. The pressure of the presser foot is too
low.
• Set the stitch length to an appropriate
amount.
• Set the drop-feed knob to “FEED”.
• Turn the presser foot pressure regulator
to in crease the pressure properly.

Needle thread-
ing cannot be
performed.
1. When the needle has not been raised.
2. When the needle has not been inserted
until it can go no further at the time of
attaching the needle.
3. When the sewing machine has been
turned with the needle threader lever
lowered (during threading) by mistake.
• Turn the handwheel or press the needle
up/down switch to bring the needle to its
highest position.
• Attach the needle properly.
• Slightly turn the handwheel by hand to
the opposite side (opposite to the direc-
tion at the time of sewing).
