Example of application
in Physics-
Chemistry: the pendulum
6.1 Recall of theory and objectives
If the simple pendulum is a harmonic oscillator, its rotary movement can be
considered as sine wave:
θ
=
θ
m
sin(
ω
t+
Φ
)
The expression of the angular speed is written:
θ
' = +
ω
θ
m
cos (
ω
t+
Φ
)
The expression of angular acceleration is written:
θ
’’ = -
ω
2
θ
If oscillations are of low amplitude, we can consider that
ω
=
T
2
π
is practically
constant. There is then isochronism of the minor oscillations.
6.2 Operating method
Record the evolution versus time of a pendulum while oscillating at various
angles and establish a link between the video of the experiment and the form
of the curve.
6.3 Set up
The experiment is performed with the PC Scientific Workshop.
Link the electronic stepped pulley to an angle sensor on the ESAO
®
Visio
console.
Place the pendulum on the electronic stepped pulley.
Connect the camera to the console and position it opposite the pendulum.
6.4 TP procedure: Parametering the software
Drag the camera and the angle adaptor icon onto the ordinate axis.
Calibrate the angle adapter by positioning the pendulum at zero then at 45°.
Drag the alarm clock onto the abscissa and parameter 10 seconds and 601
points.
