5 Example of application in SVT: Electrical
activity of the muscle
5.1 Recall of theory and objectives
How to ”visualise” muscle tone which allows maintaining a posture?
Muscle tone (which is a permanent state of contraction of the muscles
following their stretching: the tonic response of the myotatic reflex) is not
accompanied by any visible movements. Relying on the fact that electrical
activity accompanies muscle activity, follow-up by electromyography (EMG) of
the electrical activity of the muscle allows demonstrating the muscular activity
of the muscles involved in maintaining a posture.
5.2 Operating procedure
Synchronised recording of the video of movement of the foot and the muscular
electrical activity demonstrating the relationship between the mechanical and
electrical activity of the muscle.
5.3 Set up
Connect an electrophy 2 adaptor to your console, set the potentiometer of the
adapter in the middle position.
Attach the 3 electrodes in a triangle on the upper part of the ankle
corresponding to the twin muscles.
Connect your Guppy rapid camera to the ESAO
®
Visio or ESAO
®
Visio Plus
console.
5.4 Software parametering
In the recording workshop, drag the icon of the non filtered adapter and the
camera icon onto the ordinate.
In the Display tab, select a representation mode by points and a highly visible
colour for each of the curves.
Drag the alarm clock icon onto the abscissa, and indicate a time of 20 seconds
and 1001 points
