Use a material that is softer 

than the spindle to prevent mushrooming 
the end of the spindle.

 

9.  Knock spindle only far enough to separate it 

from right half of spindle pulley, and slip belt off 
spindle. 

NOTE:

 Mark keyway on pulley for easy 

referencing when reassembling. 

10. Install new belt or bearings, and reverse 

procedure to reassemble. 

IMPORTANT:

 Keyway alignment is critical for 

proper installation and operation. Do not force the 
pulley. When reinstalling handwheel (A, Figure 34), 
thread it onto the spindle until it is snug; then back 
off slightly and tighten the set screw.
