5.3 EVACUATION WITH RXI-5 (MATTRESS COVER WITH EVACUATION FUNCTION)
Evacuation of bed:
1. Inform the user about what is happening.
2. Lower bed to maximum and lock it in position for safer evacuation.
3. Pull the straps on the side of the mattress cover and fix the mattress around the patient.
4. Use the handles at the foot of the mattress to pull it from the bed and onto the floor.
Secure the user to be evacuated
with both straps.
Evacuation via staircase
Walk backwards until most of the mattress has slid
down over the top step.
Then turn around so that your eyes are in the direction
of travel, without letting go of the mattress.
Hold one hand firmly on the bannister and pull the
mattress with the other hand.
Follow the stairs down allowing the mattress to stop
against your legs if necessary. Go down at normal
speed - do not run!
Then pull the user from the foot end
of the bed. Important for evacuation
via staircase.
