5 MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION

Battery Access
1.
Loosen and remove hand wheels (A) holding engine cover sealing
plate and remove engine cover sealing plate.
2.
Loosen hand wheels (B) holding battery cover and remove battery
cover.
Confirm the battery polarity before you connect or you disconnect the battery
cables.
When you remove the battery, always disconnect the negative (BLACK) battery cable before the positive (RED)
battery cable.
When you install the battery, always connect the positive (RED) battery cable before the negative (BLACK)
battery cable.
Flat Battery Start

Before you try to start the mower, check the condition of the drained battery.

Connect the positive (+) battery terminal of the charged battery to positive battery terminal of the drained
battery.

Connect the negative (–) battery terminal of the charged battery to frame of vehicle with the drained
battery.
d
Connect the battery cables, start the engine on the vehicle with the good battery, then start the mower.
5.13 CHARGING THE BATTERY _____________________________________________
Read the battery charger manual for specified instructions on the operation of the battery charger.
Remove the battery from the mower before you charge the battery. Check the level of the electrolyte is above the
plates in all of the cells, unless the battery is a closed unit.
Make sure the battery charger is turned OFF, then connect the battery charger to the battery terminals as shown
in the battery charger manual.
Always turn OFF the battery charger before you disconnect the battery charger from the battery terminals.
WARNING
The battery can release hydrogen gas that is explosive. Work in an area with good ventilation and
shield from any type of ignition. Always connect the negative jumper cable to the frame of the mower
with the drained battery.

When the battery charger is turned on, to prevent injury, stay away from the battery. A battery that is
damaged can cause an explosion.
