7. Insert one of the supplied transceivers into each data port.
8. Cover all unused optical data ports with the supplied rubber dust covers.
9. Connect one end of a supplied fiber-optic or Ethernet cable to a data port on the appliance and
connect the other end to the target device.
Note:
Repeat this step for any additional data port connections.
10. Insert a 1Gb copper SFP transceiver into the management port on the FireStorm ONE
appliance.
11. Connect the supplied Ethernet cable from the management port to your PC or network hub. You
may optionally connect the supplied serial cable to the DB9 serial port on the FireStorm ONE
appliance for performing some management functions.
12. Insert the USB flash drive included in the accessory kit into the USB port on the front of the
FireStorm ONE. Use this drive if the system needs to be reverted to the originally shipped
software release and factory settings.
Note:
This flash drive should not be used for system backups and should be kept in a safe place for
easy retrieval when not installed in the system.
13. (Optional) Insert a 1Gb copper SFP transceiver into the target control port on the FireStorm
ONE appliance. Connect the supplied serial and/or Ethernet cable from the target control ports
to the target device.
Powering the System
Before connecting any power cables to the appliance, verify that:
• The appliance has been securely fastened into an equipment rack.
• There is an AC power disconnect installed for the equipment rack, and it is easily accessible.
• The main AC power disconnect for the rack is properly labeled.
• All of the installation steps have been followed and all site and safety requirements have been
met.
• The power switch is in the OFF position.
After you have verified all of this information, you may proceed to the instructions for powering
the appliance.
To connect the power cables to the appliance:
1. Insert the female end of the supplied power cable into the power inlet, which is located on the
back of the appliance.
2. Insert the male end of the cable into an AC outlet.
3. Turn the power switch to the ON position.
Once you have turned on the power for the appliance, you can proceed to the initial configuration
for the system. For more information, see section
