Cause
Key switch is not in the proper position

Starter Switch or Solenoid
No or low fuel
Improper or stale fuel
Water or dirt in the fuel system
Air in the fuel system (Diesel only)
Fuel hose or fuel filter clogged or damaged
Air filter is clogged
Spark plug defective (Kohler 750 only)
Engine oil viscosity is wrong
Battery becomes weak and the engine does
not turn over quick enough
Brake pedal is not engaged
Parking Brake safety switch
Faulty glow plugs (Diesel only)
Brake pressure switch has malfunctioned
Fuse is blown
Battery is dead
Loose battery or solenoid connections
Insufficient or dirty fuel
Air cleaner is clogged
Engine is cold
Spark plug defective (Kohler 750 only)
Insufficient fuel
Fuel pump improperly working
Engine is cold
Countermeasure
Make sure the key is in “ON” position
Clean corroded connections and tighten
loose connections
By-pass switch or solenoid with
a jumper wire. If starter cranks normally,
replace faulty components.
Replenish fuel
Replace fuel and consult your authorized
dealer
Bleed the fuel system
Clean or replace fuel lines, and consult
your authorized dealer
Clean or replace air filter
Adjust the spark plug gap or replace the
spark plug
Check spark plug wire connection
Use oils of different viscosities,
depending on ambient temperatures
Clean battery cables and terminals
Charge the battery
In cold weather, always remove the
battery from the engine, charge and store
it indoors. Install it on the machine only
when the machine is going to be used
Apply pressure to the brake when starting
Replace brake switch (located near
master cylinder).
Check wire connection
Replace brake switch (located near
master cylinder).
Replace the fuses
Charge or replace the battery
Check all connections and tighten
Check the fuel system. Replace fuel filter
if necessary
Clean or replace the air cleaner
Allow time for engine to warm before
