Input Expansion Board
Quick Reference

en-US

Introduction

A TruPortal system can be expanded by adding an Input/Output
Expansion module (TP-ADD-IO-BRD) that consists of:

One

TruPortal Input Expansion board

 (TP-ADD-IN-BRD)

that monitors up to 16 supervised inputs.

One

TruPortal Output Expansion board

(TP-ADD-OUT-BRD) that provides eight relay output points
to connect to devices such as sirens, indicators, or other
peripherals. For details about the TP-ADD-OUT-BRD, refer
to the

TruPortal Output Expansion Board Quick Reference

.

Both boards communicate with the TruPortal System Controller
(TP-SYS) on the SNAPP bus (RS-485) and interface with each
other via VBUS internal cabinet communications.

The boards are available in the following configurations:

The

TruPortal Input/Output Add-on Kit

 (TP-ADD-IO)

consists of a TruPortal 16-input, 8-output I/O Expansion
Module kit installed in a UL-listed enclosure with an
integrated power supply. (The kit is also available with a CE
enclosure (TP-ADD-IO-E), but cannot be used in UL
installations.)

The

TruPortal Input/Output Expansion Module

 (TP-ADD-

IO-BRD) consists of one TP-ADD-IN-BRD and one
TP-ADD-OUT-BRD that can either be installed in a two-door
base kit (TP-SYS-2D) that consists of a System Controller in
a UL-listed enclosure with integrated power supply, or used
for spare parts. One TP-ADD-IN-BRD and up to two
TP-ADD-OUT-BRDs can be mounted in a System Controller
enclosure. Devices can be powered from the SNAPP bus if
the total power consumption does not exceed the limits of the
system.

Installation Procedure

To install the I/O Expansion Module (TP-ADD-IO-BRD), perform
the procedures described in the following sections, in the order in
which they are presented.

1.

Mount the enclosure.

2.

Mount the module in the enclosure.

3.

Wire the supervised inputs to the Input Expansion board.

4.

Wire the relay output points to the Output Expansion board.
(Refer to the

TruPortal Output Expansion Board Quick

Reference

 for details.)

5.

Wire the power and communications inputs.

6.

Ensure that the jumpers are configured correctly on the
Output Expansion board (no jumpers installed).

7.

Apply power to the unit and listen for the relays to click.

8.

Observe LED indicators to verify correct board operation.

9.

Ensure all wires are clear and secure the cover.

WARNING:

Circuit board components are vulnerable to damage
by electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can cause
immediate or subtle damage to sensitive electronic
parts. An electrostatic charge can build up on the
human body and then discharge when touching a
board. A discharge can be produced when walking
across a carpet and touching a board, for example.

Before handling any board, make sure to dissipate
any charge by touching the ground. This discharges
any static electricity build-up.
