4.8.2 ATA Flat Cable Connection

The IDE cable can connect to one or two IDE devices. To connect the IDE devices, follow

the steps below.

Step 1:

Locate the IDE connector

. Locate the IDE connector on the board.

Step 2:

Insert the connector

. Connect the IDE cable connector to the on-board

connector. See

Figure 4-10. A key on the front of the cable connector ensures it

can only be inserted in one direction.

Step 3:

Connect the cable to an IDE device

. Connect the two connectors on the other

side of the cable to one or two IDE devices. Make sure that pin 1 on the cable

corresponds to pin 1 on the connector.
