Second, install on the Client
ConsoleOne
– a Java Tool – (current version) to be able to man-
age the Netware Cluster.
(Important Note:
ConsoleOne
running on the server does not support the Netware Cluster
Services).
With
ConsoleOne
you can also install the
Volume Resources
, which appear as Netware Cluster
Volumes.
Note: Novell Clustering makes intensive use of the IP protocol. Special care should be
taken that all IP addresses (Servers, Clients, Cluster Resources, etc.) are unambiguous.
B.6.5 Information on the Active-Active Failover Scenario
Please be aware that the Netware Cluster Services (as well as the solutions for MS and Li-
nux products) do not represent fully mirrored systems. Thus data loss can happen in case
of a server failure with subsequent failover to a backup server.
B.6.6 The ICP Netware Driver and the Tool ICPCON.NLM
Basically, every released version of the ICP HAM driver (GDTRxxxx.HAM) is suitable for
Clustering as there are no specific cluster functions in the driver. Though we recommend to
use for any new installation the latest released version. Our website contains a download
area, where you can download latest versions of all kind of drivers, tools and firmware.
The ICP administration tool ICPCON.NLM allows the administration of the cluster arrays.
Please note that a cluster array can only be managed and serviced from one server. Access
to this cluster array from other servers (with ICPCON running) is denied. Normally, this is
the server in the cluster which was started first and which has found the cluster array before
the other servers. If this specific server fails all administration rights are migrated to an-
other, valid server. A server console message notifies the server administrator of this event.
B.6.7 Restrictions
Cluster RAIDYNE in version 2.30 has the following restrictions:
1.
Cluster Arrays cannot be expanded online. The Cluster has to be shut down (all
servers) and the following steps have to be observed:
-
Shut down the Cluster with all its individual servers and switch them off
-
Switch on only one of the servers and enter ICPCON with <CTRL>+<G>
-
Change the drive type of the Cluster Array into “Private”
-
Expand and/or migrate the array and wait until this process is completed
-
Change the drive type of the Cluster Array back into “Cluster”
-
Start the Cluster again
2.
The RAID Levels 1, 10, 15 are currently not supported for Cluster Arrays.
