5. Press and hold the unload button for 3 or more seconds, then release it to select
the function.

. The tape
drive erases all errors from the error code log, and displays the following
message:

Completed!
The tape drive exits maintenance mode and displays the following message:
Ultrium Tape Drive
Drive Empty
Function Code C: Insert Cartridge into Tape Drive
This function cannot be selected by itself, but is part of other maintenance
functions (such as Run Tape Drive Diagnostics and Create FMR Tape) that require
a tape cartridge to be inserted.
Function Code E: Test Cartridge & Media
Function Code E performs tests that determine whether a suspect cartridge and its
magnetic tape are acceptable. The diagnostic takes approximately 15 minutes to
complete and loops continually until you halt it. To halt the diagnostic, press the
unload button. The diagnostic will continue to the end of its loop, then stop. The
drive then exits maintenance mode.
Attention: When you perform this test, data on the suspect tape will be
overwritten.
1. Make sure that no cartridge is in the drive.
2. Make sure that the following message appears on the message display (you
may need to turn the power off, then on again for the message to appear):
Ultrium Tape Drive
Drive Empty
3. Within two seconds, press the unload button 3 times. The status light becomes
solid amber and the following message displays (indicating that the tape drive
is in maintenance mode):
Maint Mode: Select
Exit Maint Mode
Note: If a cartridge is in the tape drive, it will eject the first time that you press
the unload button and the drive will not be placed in maintenance
mode. To continue placing the drive in maintenance mode, perform the
preceding step.
