a
hot-swap
hard
disk
drive
Hard
disk
drive
problems
include
any
malfunctions
that
delay,
interrupt,
or
prevent
successful
I/O
activity
between
the
hosts
and
the
hard
disk
drives
in
the
EXP3000.
This
includes
transmission
problems
between
the
host
controllers,
the
ESMs,
and
the
drives.
This
section
explains
how
to
replace
a
failed
drive.
Check
the
hardware
and
software
documentation
that
comes
with
your
server
to
determine
whether
there
are
restrictions
regarding
hard
disk
drive
configurations.
Some
system
configurations
might
not
allow
mixing
different
hard
disk
drive
capacities
or
types
within
an
array.
To
replace
a
hot-swap
hard
disk
drive,
complete
the
following
steps:
1.
Read
the
instructions
that
come
with
the
hard
disk
drive.
2.
Read
the
safety
information
that
begins
on
page
and
3.
Locate
the
hard
disk
drive
that
you
want
to
remove.
Attention:
Never
hot-swap
a
hard
disk
drive
when
its
green
activity
LED
is
flashing.
Hot-swap
a
drive
only
when
its
amber
status
LED
is
lit
(not
flashing)
or
when
the
drive
is
inactive
(activity
LED
is
off).
4.
Remove
the
hard
disk
drive.
