Using the 5500 Control Unit as a Network Station Boot Server
When using the IBM 5500 Control Unit as a Boot Server for the IBM
Network Stations, the NSM (Network Station Manager) Host Configuration
Server should be configured to optimize the login process of the NS Client.
During the Login process, the NS user is presented with a Login screen on
which they may authenticate with their NSM Host Configuration Server.
However, by default, the Login screen points to the TCP/IP address of the
IBM 5500 Control Unit, not the NSM Host Configuration Server.
To prevent the NS user from selecting the ROAM button to login, the NSM
administrator must edit or create the file
defaults.dft
on the NSM Host
Configuration Server. This file resides in the
configs
directory of the NSM
Host Configuration Server. The following is an example of directory structure
this file would reside in:
/QIBM/ProdData/NetworkStation/Configs/
The following are the edits to the file
defaults.dft
:
set config-auto-save-nvram =
false
Causes the NS not to update its
NVRAM
set exec-startup-commands =
{{“actlogin -authserve
TCPIPADDR”}}
Allows the NSM Administrator
to boot NS clients from a boot
server and have a login screen
from a specified NSM
configuration host server.
Replace the TCPIPADDR with
the IP address or host name of the
desired NSM configuration host
server.
