Chapter 4. Installing the Device Driver Software and Microcode
There are three sections in this chapter. The sections help you to install the IBM
Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter on either:

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
v
“Novell NetWare 4.2” on page 18
v
“Novell NetWare 5” on page 21
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
The instructions in this section are for Windows NT 4.0. with service pack 5 (SP5) or
later. If you are using the Microsoft Cluster Service you must have service pack 5 (SP5)
or later.

Installation on an existing server
The instructions below assume that Windows NT has already been installed and that
the adapter has been installed in the system unit. If you are installing Windows NT onto
an SSA resource, see “Installing NT onto an SSA Resource in a New Server” on
page 13.
You must first install the appropriate adapter device driver. See “Installing the Device
Driver”.
After installing the device driver you must run the setup program on the CD-ROM
provided. It will install all required host software to \issa on your Windows NT boot disk.
The host software consists of
v
The Event Logger
v
The Remote Systems Management (RSM) configurator
v
The microcode download utilities
You should always run the latest versions of all host software, device drivers and
microcode. You can find information about the latest levels on the SSA World Wide
Web Support page. Check this page regularly for updates. The URL below contains
concise information relating to all recent updates available for your SSA adapters,
drives, and enclosures. The required URL is:

Installing the Device Driver
Note: It is assumed that you have Windows NT Server 4.0, with at least SP5, installed
and running on your system unit, and that you have already installed the IBM
Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter in the system unit.
