element. If they are not in place yet, install the clamp
jaws that match the diameter of the component and the
fitting on the machine carriages. The hex keys needed for
both operations are supplied with the machine.
Important
The socket welding machine is designed
exclu-
sively
for use with the heating spigots and sock-
ets included in the technical description of the
machine. The use of any other heating spigot or
socket puts the welding operation at risk of yield-
ing a poor outcome and will in all cases dispense
the manufacturer from assuming any liability or
responsibility for the product.
The required clamps are composed of three
pairs. Two pairs will be fitted to the carriage on
the pipe side of the machine, i. e. the left-hand
side when standing in front of it, where the
length of pipe will be clamped. One pair will be
installed on the fitting side of the machine, i. e.
the right-hand carriage, when standing in front
of the machine, with the bar securing the fitting
where this pipeline joiner (or another type, such
as reducer, Tee or Y) will be clamped.
Components will be secured in clearances ma-
chined in both clamps of a pair which, together,
form a diamond or rhombus shape suitable for
various component diameters. Be sure that all
three clamp pairs form a diamond of the same
size on the inside. On the fitting-side carriage,
install those clamps of which the edge pointing
to the midline of the machine is machined as a
low, flange-like bead against which the fitting
will be positioned (see upper figure on the right
for reference). Two different half-diamond jaws
for the smaller component diameters are cleared
out of the same clamp pair, half-diamonds for
the largest diameters, out of clamps with only
one jaw. Fit the appropriate clamps to the car-
riages by sliding the hole in the bottom over the
pin of the carriage and turning the clamp gaps
“around” the hex key-head screws (see lower figure on
the right for reference). Then tighten both screws.
To complete the preparation, connect the heating ele-
ment to the power supply and set its temperature selector,
located next to the handle, to the temperature required
for the welding operation at hand (see tables in Sect. 5.4
for reference).
