8.4.3 Capacity Planning
This section introduces the capacity planning for data disaster recovery.
shows an example scenario.
Table 8-9
Descriptions of parameters in the scenario
Parameter Name
Value
Peak traffic of application data
x Mbit/s
Average traffic of application data
y Mbit/s
Average of application write I/Os
z KB
Maximum duration of service interruption
accepted by the customer
m hours
Maximum outage for a remote device
n hour
RPO required by the customer
p minutes
Based on the data in the previous table, the method and process of planning the capacity are
described as follows:
l
Synchronous replication
Set the value of the bandwidth to the most suitable value x Mbit/s (the peak traffic of
application data) to avoid long latency periods.
l
Asynchronous replication
Set the value of the bandwidth to the most suitable value y Mbit/s (the average traffic of
application data) to meet the requirements of effective data replication.
l
Size of a packet transmitted on the network
Set the size of a packet to z KB (the average of application write I/Os) to avoid packets
split.
l
SRL size
Calculate the maximum duration (unit: hour) in which data cannot be replicated: max
{maximum duration of service interruption accepted by the customer, maximum outage
