customer bought a new storage array. Inter-array data protection is required.

8.3.3 Capacity Planning
This section introduces the capacity planning.
The VIS6000 takes over the services of the original array and maps LUNs to hosts. The newly-
added array has the same capacity planning with the original one.
8.3.4 Service Planning
This section introduces the service planning.
The original storage array and the new array are from different manufacturers. The virtualization
function of the VIS6000 can implement data protection between storage arrays from different
manufacturers. Since the distance between the two storage arrays is less than 60 km, FC-based
local mirroring scheme is adopted. The two storage arrays have the same data configurations
and serve as the backup array for each other.
The newly-added array has the same data planning with the original storage array. For example,
the original storage array has 23 FC disks. The capacity of each disk is 450 GB. Two FC disks
are reserved as hot spare disks. A RAID 5 consists of 9 disks with the stripe unit size set as 64
KB and cache prefeching policy set as intelligent prefeching. Another RAID 5 group consists
of 12 disks with the stripe unit size set as 32 KB and the prefeching policy set as intelligent
prefeching. Make the same configuration on the newly-added storage array. Do the same on the
newly-added storage array.
