System Firmware
The Digital AlphaStation 255 system contains 512 KB of flashROM for the console
firmware. The flashROM contains either the AlphaBIOS firmware (for the Windows NT
operating system) or the SRM console firmware (for the Digital UNIX and OpenVMS
operating systems).
Update Utility
Use the update utility to update your AlphaBIOS and SRM firmware or change from SRM
to AlphaBIOS firmware or vice versa. The update utility contains three images: the update
utility itself, the SRM image, and the AlphaBIOS image.
Flash Enable Switch
The flashROM write enable switch (3) is located on the motherboard and should always be
set to the write enable position. If you have any problems updating firmware, check the
switch to ensure that it is set properly. See Appendix B for the location of the switch.
