F or option #020 rst splice a HP 81102BC patchcord to the pigtail of the
P ol-port.
Make sure that all instruments have warmed up .
Fix all cables with tape so that they won't move during measurements .
3. Set up the 8153A.
a. Zero the 8153A: press 4
ZERO
5 .
b. Set the 8153A to dBm: press 4 dBm/W 5 until display shows dBm.
c. Set the 8153A to wavelength = 1470 nm: press 4 pa ram 5 until is shown,
set to 1470 using the Modify keys .
d. Set the 8153A sample time to 50 ms: press 4 pa ram 5 until you get T, use the
Modify keys , until display reads 50ms .
e. Set 8153A to datalogging:
i. Press 4

5 to get MENU.
ii. Press 4 Reco rd 5 until you get LOGGING.
iii. Press 4 Edit 5 to get SAMPLES.
iv . Press 4 Mo dify 5 cursor until display reads 500.
v . Press 4 Next 5 until you get START.
vi. Press 4 Mo dify 5 cursor until you get IMMEDIAT.
vii. Press 4 Edit 5 to get LOGGING.
4. Set up the 8168C.
a. Press 4 W avelength 5 , press 4 Edit 5 , type 1470 on the numeric keypad, press

c. A ctivate the Optical Output.
5. Set up the 8169A (DUT)
a. Set the polarizing lter for maximum transmission (see \Setting the
P osition of the P olarizing Filter" in Chapter 2).
b. Press 4 Sphere 5 , select Slow with the Modify knob and press 4 Enter 5 .
