nsert the ball race into the fork column
and keep horizontally. Then, insert the
collar, presser with presser guide and
clamp.
Engage the screw portion of the clamp
with the slit of the presser guide.

Turn the handles clockwise to press down
the ball race until the ball race comes in
contact with the crown race surface.

Do not apply excessive torque in pressing down the ball race. Stop operating just as the
ball race contacts the crown race surface. Otherwise, this could damage the ball race
and the fork.

Make sure that the bottom of the ball race contacts the crown race surface complete-
ly. If not, try again after correcting the crown race surface using a crown race cutter
and such.

Loosen the clamp screw. Then, detach the clamp, presser with presser guide and
collar.
Using a 5 mm hex key, tighten the clamp
screw to fasten the clamp on the fork
column (with tightening torque 8
-
10 N

m).

Vise

The illustration shows the fork column
secured upside down on the vise.
Hold horizontally according to the vise
type or the surroundings.
If the ball race and the fork crown are
new, much force will be required.
When it is so difficult to turn the handles,
secure the presser guide on the vise.
