Care of Combs and Cutters
•
Wash used combs and cutters each day
•
Left dirty, the salt in sheep grease, and dirt, eats into the metal.
•
Once pitted or rusted, it is impossible to get sharp edges again when sharpening.
This pulls on the wool, unsettling the sheep, and makes shearing slower and more
difficult.
Cleaning
•
After shearing wash the blunt combs/cutters.
•
Use very hot soapy water. Brush to remove all grease, dirt and oil. Rinse in hot
water, and dry immediately.
•
Keep in a dry place.
To Post
•
Wrap the clean, dry combs and cutters together securely, covering all sharp points,
and preventing any movement.
•
Put in a Jiffy bag, or box. Include your name, address and phone number.
•
Ask for a ‘Certificate of Posting’ at the Post Office – it is free.
Note: Combs and cutters cannot be sharpened unless free of all dirt and oil.
