Experiment #9 –
Exploring the effects of temperature
Purpose:
This experiment demonstrates the relationship between temperature and the performance of the
ethanol fuel cell. At higher temperatures, atoms tend to move faster and are more likely to interact
with the catalysts located on the surface of the membrane. With more interactions, the reaction
accelerates and more electricity is produced, which is demonstrated by the speed of the fan
motor increasing.

Setup:
Setup the equipment as shown below:

1. Make sure that the bio-energy discovery kit is filled with mixture of 10% ethanol, 90%
water solution stored in the solution tank.
