APPLICATION WARNINGS

IMPROPER SAFETY DEVICE INSTALLATION

Safety devices (e.g. safety light curtains, safety switches, etc.) must be installed in such a way that a person cannot enter the
hazardous area without being detected by a safety device.

Individually activate and check all of the safety devices connected to the FF-SRM200P2 module to ensure proper operation.

IMPROPER AUXILIARY MUTING SENSOR INSTALLATION

Auxiliary muting sensors (e.g. position switches, photoelectric sensors, proximity sensors, ultrasonic sensors) must be
installed in such a way that a muting sequence can not be started by a person, but only by an authorised object.

Particular attention has to be paid to the installation of photoelectric sensors. When two crossed photoelectric sensors are
used, the crossing point MUST be located inside the hazardous area to avoid a muting sequence being started by a person.

IMPROPER SAFETY DEVICE CONNECTION

Connect two redundant safety outputs of each safety device to the muting module inputs (2 sensor muting modes : S11/S12,
S13/S14, S21/S22, S23/S24 ; 4 sensor muting modes : S11/S12, S13/S14).

Connect the redundant safety device outputs, so that cross-faults between them will be detected. In order to do so, supply
redundant safety relay outputs of safety devices or redundant safety switches with different potentials ((dc+) and (dc-)). Safety
devices with redundant self monitored static safety outputs (e.g. FF-SY, FF-SG and FF-SLG safety light curtains) detect the
cross-faults by themselves and are powered with the same potential (e.g. (dc+)).

IMPROPER CONNECTION OF SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS WITH STATIC SAFETY OUTPUTS
The following is valid when Honeywell safety light curtains with static safety outputs of the FF-SYA, FF-SG and FF-SLG18/30
series are connected to the FF-SRM200P2 muting module. For safety reasons, the common (dc-) of the load (e.g. optocoupler
inputs S11, S13, S21, S23) must be connected to the common of the safety light curtain (e.g. FF-SYA receiver terminal 6) and
must NOT be connected directly to the common (dc-).

In modes 20 to 39 or 50 to 69 (2 muting sensor modes) safety devices may be muted or not. Always check that the modes
have been set correctly and that the mutable safety devices are connected to the mutable module inputs (refer to the table
« MUTING MODES » for details).

In modes 90 to 93 (mutual exclusion mode) module inputs for safety device 1 (robot detection) and safety device 2 (operator
detection) are having a different behaviour. Always check that the robot’s safety device is connected to (S11/S12, S13/S14)
and the operator’s safety device is connected to (S21/S22, S23/S24) (refer to the table « MUTUAL EXCLUSION MODES » for
details.

IMPROPER MUTING SENSOR CONNECTION
Connect the start muting sensors SM or end muting sensors EM, so that cross-faults between redundant sensors SM1/SM2 or
EM1/EM2 will be detected. In order to do so, supply the redundant sensor outputs with different potentials ((dc+) and (dc-)).
When using sensors with static outputs, connect one sensor with PNP output and one sensor with NPN output.
IMPROPER PUSH-BUTTONS USE (MANUAL START MODE)

To ensure proper use of an external start push-button, always design the circuitry for manual start mode (compulsory in
Europe only), see application example page 7.

Ensure the manual start push-button and the acknowledge push-button are located outside of the protected area and provides
the operator with a clear view of the zone.

For perimeter guarding solutions, the operator should not be able to reach manual start push-button from the hazardous zone.

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) must NOT be able to override a manual start function.

CONTACT WELDING
Always protect all safety relay contacts with correctly rated fuses. These fuses must never exceed the rated FF-SRM200P2
safety output switching capability to prevent contact welding.
IMPROPER EXTERNAL SAFETY CONTACTOR MONITORING

The proper operation of external safety contactors and FF-SRE extension modules must be monitored using the External
Device Monitoring (EDM) function of the FF-SRM200P2 muting module. The correct operation of the external contactors is so
checked when pushing the start push-button.

EDM (muting modes) : connect one normally closed contact of each contactor (or the normally closed contact of the extension
module) in series into the combined restart loop and External Device Monitoring (EDM) loop S43/S44.

EDM (mutual exclusion modes) : select the modes with EDM (modes 90 and 92) and connect one normally closed contact of
each external safety contactor (or the normally closed contact of the FF-SRE extension module) between EDM terminals
S41/S42. In these modes, the muting module also checks if the normally closed contacts of the external safety relays have
opened max. 250 ms after energising the internal safety relays K1 and K2.

If the FF-SRM200P2 relay outputs are not activated often, the customer is responsible for accomplishing any additional test
procedures of the external safety components. For instance, this testing can be done by using the safety device test input at
machine power up every day.

IMPROPER SAFETY CONTACTORS PERFORMANCE
Use two independent safety contactors with mechanically linked contacts (such as GE CR120 BP Machine Tool Relays or
Telemecanique CA3-D relays) or the FF-SRE extension module to reliably detect a welded contact through the External Device
Monitoring (EDM) function.
IMPROPER ARC SUPPRESSOR INSTALLATION

NEVER install an arc suppressor across the safety output contact of the safety relay module.

ALWAYS install arc suppressor across the coils of external safety relays.

IMPROPER EMERGENCY STOP PUSH-BUTTON

An Emergency Stop push-button must be designed according to European (EN 418) or US safety standards (NFPA 79).
Under any and all conditions, the Emergency Stop switch must be able to open its contacts when activated.

Do NOT connect an emergency stop push-button on inputs that can be temporarily muted.

Failure to comply with these instructions could result in death or serious injury.
