4.2.6. Verifying main drive belt tension
The sensor heads are attached to the head carriages and scan in unison.
They are driven by the drive motor and pulled by the main drive belts.
The drive belt tensions must be similar to ensure the heads scan in unison.
To verify the drive belt tensions are set properly, check the cross direction
alignment of the heads at both the scanner cable and distant ends by
inserting the alignment pins in the head alignment holes.
Both ends of a main drive belt meet at, and attach to, the head carriage.
Each belt is toothed and wraps around drive sprockets.
The main drive belts are 2.5 cm (1.0 in) wide with 1.3 cm (0.5 inch) pitch,
neoprene rubber reinforced with fiberglass cable.
The main drive belt tension requires adjustment at the following times:
•
When the heads do not hold the cross-direction alignment
•
When the head drive belts have been replaced
•
When the belts have stretched unequally
Tension on the top and bottom belts is adjusted using adjustment bolts at
the scanner carriage. See Section 9.6.3 for instructions on how to adjust the
main drive belt tensions.
When the tensioning procedure has been completed, head alignment in
the cross direction should be rechecked at both the scanner cable end and
the distant end.
4.2.7. Verifying head alignment
This section explains how to check head alignment in the cross, vertical,
and machine directions.
